Grant Description
Opportunity for Washington, DC, Virginia, and Maryland nonprofit organizations in eligible regions to be recognized as a top local community organization. Recognized organizations will receive marketing and professional development support and other resources to increase their capacity to serve their communities. Eligible organizations serve the people and communities of the greater Washington region, which includes the District of Columbia, Montgomery County, Prince George's County, Charles County, Frederick County; Arlington County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County, City of Alexandria, City of Fairfax, City of Falls Church, and have headquarters or main offices locally.

The mission of Spur Local, formerly the Catalogue for Philanthropy, is to create a more equitable, more just DC region, creating equity of access for small local nonprofits – access to donors, networks, information, and relationships – elevating their voice and impact, empowering them, and working with them to strengthen our communities. For donors‚ this means taking the guesswork out of giving by identifying critical community-based charities in Washington D.C. and nearby Maryland and Virginia counties. For nonprofits‚ it means raising their visibility and building their capacity.

Being part of the network means you’ll be recognized as a critical community-based nonprofit in the region—something that means so much to supporters‚ both existing and new. While no specific financial benefit is guaranteed‚ the track record shows that when nonprofits engage in a committed partnership‚ they receive both financial and other returns. Spur Local has helped raise over $55 million for the local nonprofit sector since 2003. Partners also gain access to many capacity building and collaboration opportunities that currently thousands of nonprofit attendees take part in annually.

What the partnership will do:

  • Collaborate with you on a powerful story about your work and your impact, to use in the annual print catalog, and in your marketing, fundraising and other materials;
  • Promote your story through direct mail efforts, media partnerships (e.g., City Paper), the Giving Tuesday campaign, a personalized webpage on the website, features in the blog, social media promotion, and more;
  • Give you access to a digital resource library, with access to 200+ tools, templates, webinars, and more;
  • Invite you to professional development workshops, webinars, and collaboration events. These trainings, which are free to partners, include an orientation workshop for new nonprofits, as well as workshops and collaborative sessions on development, communications, program evaluation, volunteer management, and board development;
  • Continue this partnership for four years.
