Grants to Maryland Jewish day schools and day school, congregational, and early childhood educators in eligible locations for career advancement opportunities. Funding is intended for teachers, teaching assistants, and principals, to attend courses, conferences, or classes, and for day schools to host in-house professional development for a group of faculty. Eligible applicants are located in Baltimore.

CRANE Professional Development for Educators: Educators can receive reimbursement for up to half of their professional development expenses

  • Types of programs that are considered professional development: Any class or conference where you are gaining professional development and advance your teaching ability. Courses for a Master’s degree are also included. 
  • Expenses eligible for reimbursement can include related costs that enable the applicant to participate in the experience(s) (e.g. travel expenses, lodging, application fees, etc.). 

CRANE School-Based Professional Development: Day school administrators can request and receive funding toward in-house professional development for a group of faculty.

Estimated Size of Grant:

CRANE Professional Development for Educators: Educators can receive reimbursement for up to half of their professional development expenses, up to a maximum of $1,000 per year or $1,500 for credit-earning college courses, per educator. Minimum cost of programs must be $50, with an exception for Early Childhood series with multiple, smaller classes.

CRANE School-Based Professional Development: The maximum annual allocation per school is $6000.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

CRANE Professional Development for Educators: Professional development funds are available for eligible congregational school, early childhood, and day school educators. Teachers, teaching assistants, principals, who are currently working in Jewish early childhood, congregational schools, or day schools/yeshivot in Baltimore are eligible to appy. Some exclusions apply. If you are unsure if your school is eligible for the grant, please check with the CJE to confirm.

CRANE School-Based Professional Development: This grant is for day schools only.

Pre-Application Information:

Applications for May 2022 are now open. Deadline to submit is May 20, 2022

CJE has a rolling application with two submission periods. One is due in December and one is due in May. While you are encouraged to apply as soon as you finish your professional development, the review and funding only occurs at the end of each period. Applications must be submitted within one year of program completion to be eligible.

Funding is given on a reimbursement basis.
