Request a Grant Writer

Grants of up to $500 and grants of up to $1,500 to Maryland nonprofit organizations, government agencies, schools, and faith-based entities in eligible counties for programs that address basic needs in local communities. Funding is intended to respond to needs related primarily to health, education, financial stability, or opportunities and experiences for youth. Eligible proposals benefit residents in Allegany, Garrett, Hampshire, and Mineral Counties.

Estimated Size of Grant:

- Maximum funding requests in Allegany County: $1,500
- Maximum funding requests in Garrett, Hampshire, and Mineral Counties: $500

Term of Contract:

Funds must be spent from one quarter before eligibility is considered for a future quarter(s); all awarded dollars from any quarter must be spent by or before June 30, 2022.

Additional Eligibility Criteria:

Grants will be considered from nonprofit organizations that are in good standing with the IRS, eligible churches, government agencies, and schools. Individuals and groups who wish to present a community project must first obtain a partnership with an eligible 501c3 organization.

The service must be provided within the County United Way footprint.

County United Way will not accept applications for after-the-fact support and operating deficits.

2022 Application windows:
- Quarter 3: January 1, 2022 - March 31, 2022
- Quarter 4: April 1, 2022 - June 30, 2022

Grant opportunities exist on a quarterly basis and continued funding may be considered for additional quarterly funding of programs that show need and success.
